Relaunching the mark Benchmarking Report
Almost a year ago, we introduced you to mark, our benchmarking report for the tourism industry.
And I am proud to say that our first version was embarrassing.
Not at the time, of course. But in retrospect. As is the case with all good product launches. The first version of mark was good, but not great. We learned a lot…good, bad and ugly…which has guided the development of our latest update.
We took feedback seriously, worked with industry partners and essentially started over.
We built a free version of the report…really, free…with simplified metrics that still provide solid insight.
We put the entire report online via a custom dashboard that produces daily updates.
We made mark easier, faster and more affordable.
And along the way, we have created the premier benchmarking tool for the tourism industry.
At least for now.
Here is what we learned, what we changed and why you need the new mark.
Keep it simple.
For all the simplicity built into the first version, it was still too complex. From the pricing model to the reports, we trimmed, redesigned and restructured to make it even easier.
Make it faster.
Yeah, quarterly reports via email were fine, but we knew we could do better. Our new version is an online dashboard with daily metric updates.

While comparing to a peer set was a logical method, in practice it corrupted the report. People spent too much time trying to figure out who was who, instead of paying attention to their own metrics.
